I am having a contractor install a new inground pool. It has pillars poured in the ground reinforced with rebar aprox 4 foot deep. The rebar is then bent over and tied to the rebar that supports the deck which completely surrounds the pool. What is required to insure that the pool is completely grounded per code. Any help is appreciated.

Re: grounding of inground pool

Find a qualified electrical contractor with experience in pool installation. He needs to be involved early in the construction so the proper grounding,(more properly bonding) can be installed.

Now referred to as "equipotential bonding" in the 2005 NEC to recognize the difference between the purpose of "bonding" and "pool bonding" (680.26 2005NEC)

mj. I totally agree with electricman2. The changes made to the 2005 NEC are complicated and should be only attemted by a qualified electrican familar with the changes. This does not includes the pool boys tring to do the electrical themselves. If they didn't pull an electrical permit this should give you a sign they are not sure of what they are doing.
