The code says ground wires will be attached to metal boxes with grounding screws. Where do they address grounding clips?? Neither are ul listed.

250.8

If you have an '02 NECH (I don't have an '05 yet), they have a picture of both the clip and screw variety.

Ok, you didn't like my first answer, so let's try it this way:
What code # prohibits ground clips as a means of attachment?

250.8 says that "listed pressure connectors, listed clamps or listed means" may be used. If the grounding clip is listed than it is permitted.
Grounding screws are not required to be listed.

I agree with infinity.

Remember when reading "The Book", read the article above and the article below and check the FPN to make sure that it doesn't send you to another article.

Where does it say in in 314.40(D) that you can't use clips? "A means shall be provided in each metal box for the connection of an equipment grouncing conductor. The means "SHALL" be "PERMITTED" to be a tapped hole or equivalent.

And if you were looking up something to do with grounding or bonding what were you doing in 314?

Thank you Trevor. That is what I was loking for but could not find. I can't rember the Art# but I did find one that stated "Ground wires will be attached to metal boxes with a grounding screw" and that was it. No mention of any other means of attachment. Thank you for an answer and not trying to dazzle me with a question. I did check the orange box today and there was no listing for either clips or screws on the boxes of the products from GB.

You're welcome Cavie.

Cowboyjwc,

John, your're doing a lot of assuming here. Did I say 314.40(D) said you

"can't use ground clips", NO--I said "it was worth looking at". You want to

know why?? Because it says 'or Equivalent', and a ground clip if listed is

just that.

The reason I was in 314 is that's where an answer could be found.

Before you talk down to someone, you should not ASSUME that you know

what you're talking about.

Yep, I know about the white book and the nec and the clips and the screws. What I stated is the Screws and the clips at "Big Orange" are not listed or labeled.

This is from a pdf at UL

Q: What is the intended use for UL Listed
ground clips, and are there any limitations
for using these clips on round outlet boxes?
A: Ground clips are intended to be used
to connect the grounding conductor of
nonmetallic-sheathed cable to an outlet box,
or to connect the bonding jumper from a
receptacle or switch to an outlet box.
Ground clips Listed by Underwriters
Laboratories Inc. have only been investigated
for use when pressed on the flat surface
of a square, rectangular or octagonal box
to hold a grounding conductor against the
side wall of the box. They have not been
evaluated for use on round boxes.

Sorry Cavie,
Missed the BO post. Gardner-Bender explains why. Try Ideal or is it T&B, I don't remember which one....getting too old.
