We have a situation where we are putting equipment in the parking lot of a building. The utility is providing a new service for this equipment. The new service is running in conduit along the outside of the building and drops down to the new meter.

Does this service need to be grounded to the building water main ? Or are two ground rods 6' apart permitted ?

Any help is appreciated.

jam,

without trying to seem impolite, I'm trying to get a grasp on what you do.

Your profile states that you are a manufacturer, and I looked at your past posts. Most all of which are asking questions.
There is nothing wrong with asking questions.

But by the nature of your questions leads me to ask, are you an electrician, an engineer, or something of that nature??

You seem to be fluent in electrical language.

The answer to your question lies in Article 250.

Re: Grounding Seperate Services on Same Site

I would question whether this is a new service that involves a new service lateral or is it a tap off the exisitng service. If it is a new service lateral, have the conditions of 230.2 been considered and what about grouping requirments. I would need more information before making a final opinion on this post.

Do you mean the conduit is run on the building itself and the enters the new meter which is also mounted to the building, or that it is in a trench next to the building and terminates at a meter enclosure?

Re: Grounding Seperate Services on Same Site

The conduit is attached to the exterior wall of the building.

Thanks for the Help.
