I am looking to find out what NEC has to say about grounding the output of a DC system. Our DC Power Shelf is -48VDC but can run as high as -56VDC in Battery Boost mode. We typically Ground the return bus bar to ground as a 0V reference. We have been requested to remove this ground and we are trying to determine if this violates NEC Code. Can anyone point in the right direction.

Hi Hal,

This is for a telecom site suppling power to radios up on the tower from a cabinet. Would 250.164 apply in this situation
You will have to look to 90.2(B)(4). If your installation falls under that description, it is not within the scope of the NEC and the rules in the NEC do not apply.
