Grounding?

My electrician for one of my home projects apparently forgot to include the amount to install underground service from a pedestal to the main panel inside and I was unsure how much ground I needed to get for another electrician to install this? The total length from pedestal to main breaker panel is 120 feet of either 2/0 copper or 4/0 aluminum wire. If anyone could give me an answer as to how much #4 copper I need to ground this it would be appreciated. Also, is it common in a electrical bid for new construction(entire home) to leave out this seemingly important figure?

Not sure I understand the question. Are these service entrance conductors ahead of the service disconnect? If so, there is no ground required. Is this a feeder to a building? If so, under 250.32(B)(2), there would be no ground required. You will need to either study article 250 or talk to someone who understands article 250 to see what applies to this installation. As to whether or not this should have been included in the contract, that depends on what these wires are. If this is from the transformer to the service disconnect, the would be a service lateral and in this area would be installed by the power company, not the electrical contractor. What was in the contract? More information will be needed to give you any type of answer. Why isn't the original electrician installing this as an "extra" if it was not included in the original contract?

Brandon,

Is the main disconnect at the pedestal? If so, the electrical sub is responsible for including the material. If main disco is at the house, the 120 ft is your area, the Poco's feed ends at the service point. Maybe I didn't understand what you are saying either. rbj
