In regard to NEC Article 430.53 and group motor installation, does the controller(s) and overload devices(s) have to be listed for group motor protection as per UL 508. For example, as part of a group installation there is a GE Mag-Break TEC type circuit breaker protecting an A-B PowerFlex 40 VFD. Does this require that the GE Mag-Break TEC type circuit breaker have a UL 508 listing for group motor installation. Thanks in advance. If a link is known for more information that would be greatly appreciated as well.

Re: GROUP MOTOR INSTALLATION

Darrell,

I believe Article 430.53(C)(1)-(6)indicates the requirements in providing devices for group motor installations. There is a change in the NEC2005 that deletes the need for the inverse time circuit breakers to be listed for group installation. If the circuit breaker is magnetic trip, in reading the article above it clearly states inverse time circuit breaker, not magnetic as suitable.
