If I have an appliance supplied with more than one source and the branch circuit breakers are being used as the disconnecting means, do the breakers have to be installed directly next to each other or is simply sharing the same panelboard effectively "grouped"?

Re: Grouped Disconnects

Grouped, another ambiguous term, as it is not defined in the NEC, and therefore can be interpreted differently by as many people who interpret it.

My interpretation of this question ;) ...CBs in a panel would be considered grouped. The proper labeling would seem key here - both at the panel and the appliance.

Re: Grouped Disconnects

I agree with Pierre's interpretation. But I would add that the two circuit breakers don't even have to be in the same panelboard. Generally speaking, if you can stand in one place and touch both disconnecting means, that counts as "grouped" in my book. If you have to take one step, or even more steps, to get from one disconnecting means to the next, calling them "grouped" starts getting more difficult to justify.
