Is a gutter part of equipment that requires work space ? Can the AC people place a unit under it ?This trough is on the poco side before our meter or disconnect.

Re: Gutters

common sense would say if its got a cover on it, it might need to be got into at some point.
NEC def of equipment is "a general term including material, fittings, devices, appliances, fixtures, apparatous, and the like used as part of, or IN CONNECTION WITH, an electrical system."
110.32 (2002) In all cases, the work space shall permit at least a 90 degree opening of doors or hinged panels.
wont do any good for the cover to open if you cannot reach it.

Re: Gutters

110.26(A) Working space would be required for a gutter if it is likely to require examination, adjustment, servicing or maintenaince while energized. IMO this doesn't apply to a gutter, however 110.26 would apply but the requirement there is only for "sufficent" access. I once had someone question the partial obstruction of a conduit body which already had the conductors pulled in it. IMO if the wire was pulled in without being damaged than the space was sufficent.

I have argued the same thing on this forum before. :)

"Sufficient" is not a certain dimension, it is just enough space or access to accomplish the required tasks.

Sufficient certainly does not mean it has to be easy. :p
