Are the use of UL 514b compliant cable connecting fittings allowable for use with flexible cords, such as SO, SJO, SOOW, etc. The connectors I am especially concerned with are the metal "NM" type clamp style that I have seen use throughout industry with flexible cords. It is my understanding that Osha frowns on the use of that type of connector with flexible cords.
What are your thoughts.

You need to check the fitting specification sheet to see if the fitting is listed for use with the specific type of cord you are using. Generally, fittings are listed for use with the most popular cord types. Other types, may not be covered under the listing because they were not presented for test at the time of listing.

OSHA typically frowns on cords soley supporting boxes, or have some kind of constant pull load associated on the cord, without a cord grip or use of the stay-cord inside the cable. As far as other reasons, I am unsure.

The main difference with the cord connector and the two screw strap connector, is that only one is rated for wet locations. Otherwise, pull out requirements are the same.
