How can you tell if a two-pole ITE pushmatic circuit breaker is a HACR type? Do you have to lift the service panel's dead front and read the side of the breaker? I couldn't read any notation of this type on the face of the cb.

The homeowner's AC requires a circuit breaker "HACR per NEC".

As Always, Thanks.

I don't know if they were even marking breakers as HACR type when they were still branded with the ITE label. Yes, you'd need to pull the breaker to read it over thoroughly to find out, for sure. I suspect you're a home inspector? If you called this out, and I was hired to remediate the situation, I'd just replace it with the proper modern equivalent, which is probably the Siemens type QP breaker for your case.
