This is a 3 phase sub-panel feed with 3-wire MN cable through a steel conduit

We dont need no stinking neutral...or do we

Why is it so hot

If you look real close you can see that the loads have been precisely balanced to have no net neutral current for the panel.:grin:

Yeah, you can tell because the wire sizes are the same. ;^)

The time clock is used to balance the loads. By a precise and judicious cycling of phases a perfectly balanced load can be achieved. I've done it a million times.
There ya go. Now you just need to send in a patent for a wire-saving device. Catch phrase: "Tired of wasting money on all that neutral wire? We can reduce the size of your neutral by up to 100%".

They can file it right next to the var-load energy saving devices. :grin:
