half inch conduit question

Hello everyone, need some help. If I am making a 90 degree bend, 10 inches long, do I have to put a box offset in. Someone told me that if its 10 inches or under, no box offsets are required. Just want to make sure this is right.
thank you

Joe, welcome to the zoo!

There is no single answer for that. You never have to use an offset. Sometines, you can fit an offset in if you bend it first, or just a single bend, or you can kick the pipe ahead of the 90.

This is not true. You're required to support the conduit within 3' of the box. That's it, no box set required.

I agree, its not required to put an offset but they look so nice. With that short of a bend, it would probably look fine just bending the 90 and strapping it within 3 feet of the box. With a bend that short, practice putting your offset on the pipe first and then bending the 90...its pretty easy with practice.

I rarely do box offsets on standard boxes. I NEVER use them on concealed work.

The only people that notice are sparkies.

If the KO is over 1/2" out (small conduit), I will offset it.

I don't know were the 10" stuff came from, as mentioned 3' for a support, however if you want to support the raceway at the box...

Use a minnie!

Minnie = Mineralac - trade name for item below.

Geez why do they even still make 1/2" conduit. You can bend it over your knee ffs. :D
'Cause you can stuff 9-12's in it and you can bend it over your knee.... For that matter I see rare situations to use 3/4 - theres a dead duck IMO... 9 of 10 branch conduits have only have a few 12's - why use anything bigger than 1/2"? If you're gonna up-size and derate you'll end up in the 1 1/4"-1 1/2", if you need a few circuits in 8's - many would skip 3/4" again unless it was just a single circuit.

I've heard the same said about 1-1/4".

Yeah, it comes down to this, we (electricians) are a very odd bunch. :D

Some love certain sizes of pipe and others hate that size and will fight to the death over it.

Mark ........ I run a lot of 3/4" and will never be convinced it is not a good size. :D

When it is needed because of looks you are better off putting the offset on it first. Then do your 90. Lot depends on direction this 90 is going after it leaves the box.
