Ok, I have applied with a major Metropolitan district. I don't really want to say which one. Think Los Angeles County Sanitation district or Department of water and power type of place. It is very difficult to get in. First off I sent in my resume. I'm sure they took in hundreds of apps. I was chosen as one of many to come in and take a 2 hour 200 question multiple choice type of test. Out of those applicants they chose the top ten best of the test takers. I was one of them. Now I have to go in to do a 90 minute hands on test. I'm kind of freaking out about it. Has anybody ever had to do one of these? What might I expect? What would you prepare for? The job only requires a person to have 1-2 years experience they say but I think because of all of the out of work people I think they probably have pretty high expectations of what they want you to be able to perform. They can be very choosy. They are only hiring one person.

I had to take a pipe bending test way back when.

Plywood wall with a 1900 box at 6 O'clock come out of that box with a box offset 12" above that is a piece of 2" PVC going across your path , so you need a 3 point saddle 12" past that you must make a 90 deg bend so you can hit the center KO of a 1900 Box at 3 O'clock you will need a box offset for that too.

They give you one stick of 3/4" EMT two Box connectors 2 one hole clips some wood screws and NO Couplings..

I have taken these type of tests and in general they have been pretty basic, yours may not. IDK

They usually consisted of:

3 way and 4 way switching.

Motor sizing/overloads/OCPDs/etc

Transformer OCPD/feeders/secondaries/length.

Panelboard wiring.

Various types of terminations-receptacles/cord caps/lighting fixtures.

Basic conduit installation/bending/securing.

Identification of common parts-fuses/breakers/contactors/relays/crimp terminals/split bolts/etc.

I would not sweat it too much. Good luck, you will probably pass.
