I have a customer asking about installing some 100 amp 400 hz aircraft power receptacles. They are Burton receptacles. I can't seem to find anything specific about the receptacles on the Burton website, including installation instructions, etc.

Does anyone have any experience with 400 hz power, including wire type and stranding, wiring methods, etc

Thanks

i have been around it in the submarine service. it requires no special wire or clearances. the receptacles are configured to prevent accidental installation of plugs for other systems like 60 cycle stuff.

I have had a good deal of experience with 400 Hz mainframe computer systems, but they are rapidly disappearing.

There is a great EC & M article on 400 Hz systems HERE

I've done some 400 Hz stuff in the past in some Air Force avionics repair shops.

The main difference is that you should not use ferrous conduit or parts because it will heat up badly.

We usually used aluminum rigid, aluminum lock nuts, aluminum boxes, etc. Nothing with iron in it.

We always used standard building wire, usually copper THHN.
