Hanger rated for ceiling fan?

Hey guys,

I noticed the ceiling fan in both my kid's rooms are a bit wobbly. I wondered if the old home owner installed the correct hanger to mount the fan. I attached some pics of what I found in the attic.

I'm 99% sure the hanger and box are not rated for the fan.

I can access the attic space without too much difficulty.

I'm thinking to install a cut piece of 2x4 between the trusses with 3" screws from each side, screw in a pancake box from below, then wire the fan in the new box.

****EDIT***** there is an ABS pipe on one side next to the truss so that idea won't work. How would you guys go about it in this case?

Thanks a lot,
Eric

You could secure a 2x4 or strut across joist, above box and use long screws to secure the fan hardware direct. Drill small holes through the box or pass screws alongside the box in some cases. Independent support is allowed. Then you don't have to change the box.
