Happy Memorial Day!
Thanks to all of the Veterans who have passed and to all those who protect us now:smile:Without those Veterans, we would never be free to enjoy the most taken for granted stuff. Never forget the ones that gave it all for this great nation!!

Thanks to the troops who have made being a veteran respectable again. My dad is now proud to where his Korean War Veterans hat and at 80 years of age people are thanking him for having served.

I am treating a family member and three friends that have served in the
military (Marines and Navy) to a Porterhouse steak dinner from my grill today.
The discussion today has been 90% about those that died so that we can
live in freedom in this great land. To all that served, from all of us at my
house today in San Diego would like to say,"Thank You!" Never forget
the one's that NEVER made it back to the place they were willing to die
for,a place we call HOME; The United States of America.

I don't want to rain on a perfectly good, well-intentioned thread, but.....the concept of a "happy Memorial Day" is a bit weird.

Memorial Day shouldn't be confused with Veteran's Day. Memorial Day is meant as a somber recognition of those who died in service of their country, whereas Veteran's Day is more a celebration of those veterans still amongst us.

Never hurts to remember them all, of course. But do it somberly today.

Obligatory Electrical Content: I rewired part of an old K&T circuit in my house today. From the outside reaching in. A bit unorthodox, but the opening was there. :)

Thanks for pointing this out, I know for myself it has become more about the start of summer then actually remembering the dead.

Here is more info.

:)

I had the same exact feeling. I almost posted twice yesterday and decided it may be taken wrong. There really isn't anything happy about memorial day.

Being a veteran , I am fully aware of the difference between Memorial Day and Veteran's Day! My immediate family has over 100 years of honored service! Grandad landed on the beach on D-day. I know he did that so I could be "happy" today!! Linda Holt sent me an e-mail titled"why we celebrate Memorial Day"? To celebrate is to be "happy"! Linda stated how proud she is of the ones that have served in the Armed Forces in her family! Look at the picture of herself and son in uniform! She looks pretty "happy"!! I have just gotten in from a long Memorial Day weekend. Everyone at the parades, beaches, cookouts and carshow seemed very "happy" today!! I hope you all have a very "HAPPY" week!:):)

Dennis I'm sorry if you were not happy on Memorial Day! Oh and I am sorry that I did not include my "obligatory electrical content" in this thread! Some how I think that the owners, Mike and Linda Holt really do not care this time!:):)

I think I mentioned this in the other thread of the same topic - But I for one am interested in having Memorial Day observed without changing the date for the benefit of a long week-end year after year. I think I even mentioned in the other thread that service should be mandatory - for among other reasons everyone would need to experiance Taps daily at sunset - a daily ritual of memorial done on every US military base world wide. Often the most somber few minutes in each day - especially if you're actually in a uniform, and standing among others wearing the same.

Not that I don't enjoy BBQ - quite the contray. Something many people do on Memorial Day. But, you won't catch me at any 50% off sales...

I was looking for a list or something that might have all the names of the Iraq, and Afganistan casualties - but it seems anyone keeping track seems to have a political agenda, so I wasn't looking to further thier cause.... But I did want everyone to see the quite long list of mostly young kids that should be mourned on the 30th of this month.

This site lists all of them - and the program gives them a moment of silince as more are added.

IMO every one should visit that site and see the names of the BRAVE
that gave all for our freedom, regardless of ones opinion of the WAR.
Remember, those aren't just names on a website they are American soldiers
that had Mothers,Fathers,Wives, and children and sacrificed it all for our
country. God Bless them all!
