Went to a job recently with a damaged flex from door frame to door push bar. Looked like standard MC cable but a little smaller than standard 3/8". Flex splits & peels whenever hit or snagged by anything. I;d like to find some of the heavy duty stuff that was once used on pay phone receivers. That was not easily broken. Is it still available ahywhere? If not, simple hard use cord would be better than what they have.

Try ADI http://adiglobal.us/Pages/default.aspx or another security system supplier

This might be what you're looking for (Power Transfer Loops, bottom of Page 2). Alarm and access control distributors would be my suggestion for a possible source.

I spent the last 15 years of my career working in access control and as you know, if it's surface mounted on a door or frame, it will get damaged. Take a look at the Mortise Power Transfer just above the Power Transfer Loops. If you want to fool with it, it should prove less troublesome (the Von Duprin EPT series I used was). An existing grouted frame would end that possibility.

I have now also found some steel 3/8" flex in our basement, the type used for lighting whips. Very tough and springy. If they call us to do the job, I will use a short length of it, with the tightbite type of MC connectors.

Thermocouple

Thermocouple

They make thermocouples that are proteted by SS jacket just like the old phone line protector. I did find it in spools for a high price but I just use the jacket from the thermocouple, for a few feet.

I've used these before, they worked great for high security area, and eliminated need for flex
