Can you hard wire a clothes dryer and bypass using the plug. Is this a code issue? If it is a cide issue is it something new. I saw a clothes dryer that dates back to the mid 1970's that was directly hard wired and I am wondering if this is proper or if it should be changed.

Where is the disconnect ?

OK I haven't seen an installation like this before. I would think unless there is a disconnecting means within sight of or a defined On Off switch on the machine it self (I'm not talking about the rotary dial. Electrical controls still hot) I'd say this is not a good install

Thanks for the reply. The only disconnect is in the panel which is not in direct view of the dryer. Most dishwashers I see are alor direct wired with no disconnect withun view. This is an older installation, I'm wondering if this was acceptacle 25-30 years ago, but not now.
