Hard wired dishwasher run too short

I’m replacing my dishwasher and the existing wiring is too short for the new unit. What should I do? Install a junction box and extend the wiring? Simply splice more wire onto the existing wire? Or could I install a junction box, and outlet, and then use a pigtail cord?
