Hey y'all. What the best smoke detector brand or model that has prove to require the least amount of Maintance..... Changing batteries every year... Vacuuming out dust every year...

Is there a recommended battery that will require changing greater than a year?

Appreciate feedback

All the ones I know require changes every year. Of, course they can last longer but they recommend more often than what is really needed.

For me Hands down First Alert /BRK. Go with the lithium battery option. Do not go anywhere near FireX, nothing but random/nuisance alarms.

:roll::happyno:

Low price, frequently used by home builders and never given me a problem in my own home. :thumbsup: On the other hand I've personally dealt with FireX alarms which would go off every few months of not every few weeks at random times for no reason. Nothing from customer support. Reading up and talking with others it seems to be a common problem for that brand.

A Li battery can last 5-10 years, but you're still gonna have to vacuum/dust, and more than once a year. When I did hotel maintenance, dusting off the smoke detectors, horns, strobes, etc was a monthly PM. We did alkaline batteries: one master key, a push cart, 4' ladder, and 2 gross (288) batteries, would take the better part of the day. Best to do that during the slow season so you have a minimal amount of guests to disturb or exceptions to punch off the next day.

We have installed Firex/Kidde Smoke alarms exclusively for the last 20+ years and have not experienced the problems you have. How many do you install per year?

This is huge- it needs to be made clear to HOs that the smokes need to be hit w/ the vacuum regularly and that they need to be covered if any type of demo/construction/drywall etc is going to be done in the house.

News to me too.

Not aware of any false + issues with Kidde, either the Firex or Worry Free product I mentioned.

When I was installing them we would mostly use BRK/First Alert. Price was one factor but also I did not hear good things about FireX from past jobs (I was not involved with those) the few times smoke alarms came up. That was validated for me when I moved into a condo development with new FireX units several years ago. The units would go off for 30 seconds ever few months at random hours. I guess I was not the only one either having that problem as some neighbors reported the same. Could it have been an issue effecting that area only? Sure, but if you read the reviews for FireX many users report them same.

FWIW, the same false alarm issue has been mentioned here before:

Haven't had the issues with Firex as you described. FWIW! Firex & Kidde are the same company. I'd recommend the Kidde with the 10 year batteries.

In home or customer installation? Just wondering. And yes I know Kidde and FireX are one in the same.

You're probably not getting the "call-backs". I would go buy a lottery ticket. You're on a roll.:thumbsup:
