We have one and it worked well until someone bent it. No telling what they were trying to punch through, probably a doubled plate.
One advantage is no hangups when pulling the cable.
One disadvantage is sharp exposed metal pieces.

Looks pretty good when compared to the old style punch with the one straight and one curved handles. The old one don't get into tight spots very well.

So, pop these into the holes:

This punch, punches a square hole.
It cuts an X and the four points are rolled over.
There is no slug that is punched out.
It leaves very sharp edges and points, but a very smooth hole to pull through, you can pull MC either direction without it hanging up.
I don't know if you would still need a bushing with NM or LV cable.

I pull mostly MC and similar cable in metal studs I was thinking the rounded edges would speed up pulling it in. I have the hardest time getting my guys to pull from the center of a coil which helps eliminate snags.

Pulling from the center makes it super curly though?? I hate that. Can't say I've ever tried it though when pulling through steel studs...:-?

We buy 1000' spools that are 'reverse wound' they makes it pull much better through studs or over steel truss.

I do to when the job is big enough. A lot of them only need 1000' or less I can send 2 guys with 2 rolls apiece and let them go to town. Our local suppliers don't stock the 1000' rolls so they are special order any way.
