why not just block it out enough so that it will appear to be surface mounted on the brick. That's what we used to do on some of the homes that we did when we had our meter base up before the brick. We'd make a frame out of 2 x 4's to stand it off the wall.

You have to check to see if your PoCo rule book allows it.

This method was done years ago all over our area, I hate it esp. when it comes to service change.

How is the service cable supposed to get into the enclosure? Who on this job thinks this is a good idea?

The right thing to do is to remove the can, the cable, and maybe even the POA from the wall, and reinstall it all after the brickwork is done.

I mainly have done commericial and industrial I just had never seen of it or heard of it before. I'm going to call the POCO. I should add this is a HUD job too.

don't know about the meter base but I have seen it alot on outside panels and a/c disconnects. Looks really bad, and costs more then just an electrician if there is ever a problem.

That is a really bad idea!! Some time in the future that MP will have to be changes.. ALL meter pans rust out someday and the physical size always gets bigger. Just look at 100 amp MP before you needed a bypass.

This was done on houses here many years ago, No service cable but a service mast that went up between the brick and the framed wall thru the roof.

I was wondering that same thing when I read it too. That could be a real PITA for the next guy that does a service change. Just how unsightly is a meter can installed in a "neat and workmanlike manner" anyway? And how much would flush mounting it really improve that? I wouldn't like the idea but if that's what the job calls for and it's legal........speaking of that does your AHJ have anything to say on that subject?

Well, reconnecting might take two weeks. But hey, everyone else had electricity?

yeah. thats the truth!

I was told by a PG&E employee, while on a reconnect "you dont need to call us for disconnects, youre an electrician - you can crawl up here and cut the power, then get your final, then call us for a re-seal after it has passed"

I just looked at him like :-?

I have done service change outs without involving them till after final though. their "service" is lame to put it nicely.

Firstly, I have never done an install like that. It was done years before I came on the scene. Secondly, I don't think it would be an AHJ call. Thirdly, with everthing underground and the large conduit that the POCO uses you can see it being a nightmare.

I have not seen a new install like that in my 30 years here in NC.

I was only using your quote because it pointed out how a flush mounted meter was achieved in one case, and I was curious how it was done as someone else said because I've never seen one. Nobody said you put it in. It wasn't a stab at you.

I was also just pointing out that changing out one of these services whether done from the pole or underground could be interesting to say the very least. And I think if one were doing a new one it could and would be an AHJ call just from the article Chris_Kennedy cited alone.

This is the trouble with written posts. I did not take your post as a stab at me. Since I explained it earlier I just wany=ted to clarify that I never did it, etc. Sorry if my post came across negative to you. It, honestly, was not meant that way. Funny, I just thought I was answering your question.
