If you are referring to FS or FD boxes, like a Bell box.....
FS= Feraloy (ferrous/aluminum) Shallow
FD= Feraloy (ferrous/aluminum) Deep

If your wondering where I came up with Feraloy, give me a sec....

Feraloy? is that a crouse hines regestered name? Surely they are not the only manufacture of FS/FD boxes. The ferous name makes sense too. Thanks guys,

That's just how FS and FD got started....you can get a PVC FS or FD box now....

That was my understanding as well but I think I have been swayed to


FS= Fitting Shallow
FD= Fitting Deep

Which works better when you consider that we can now get FS boxes made of PVC.
