Cabana has 3 identical factory remote control ceiling fans. Hampton Bay. In the living area there are two, North and South. The bedroom has one. The dip switches were set for independent operation. Everything is finalized, we have left the job.

For some reason, the North fan in the living room is coming on by itself. Turn everything off and leave, come back later and the light would be on and fan turning. About a week ago, I changed the dip switch setting on the North fan so it would match the South fan. I was thinking that a neighbor might have a remote on the same signal. Or a gremlin. Anyway, I thought everything was fine...

GC calls this morning. The North fan/light came on again, by itself. Any ideas?

I don't have any idea what causing it but if I have trouble with a remote controlled fan I just change out the remote.

All that stuff is made in China so why waste a lot of time trying to trouble-shoot. It's just faster and cheaper to swap it out.

My bedroom fan came with a remote control unit that I opted not to install. It was in two parts like most are. But everynow and then I noticed that it will reverse its direction there is no switch on the fan itself, so I wonder how it happens.

I have one that weird too. It does all kinds of things won't turn off, won't turn on, turns on by itself. Call the manufacture they will probably replace it free. Hunter fans will. Hope this helps. Steve

Just try a different dip switch setting,I had one customer whose fan did that everytime the guy across the street hit the button on his garage door opener.

I had a hunter fan in my own house that was coming on and off no matter what number I had it set for. After I had called hunter they sent me a replacment for free and solved my problem, the remote had been recalled,it was operating on the same freqency as millitary aircraft transponders.

Think about all the wireless crap in everyones houses these days.Bluetooth, cell phones, garage door openers, wireless routers, heck even video games are mostly wireless , Does the fan come on when they bowl a strike on their Wii????

"Hello, Hunter Fans? My fan keeps turning itself on and off, and my neighbor's house just blew up. Any ideas?"

I think everybody is just carried away with all of these remotes. I personally don't won't any more than I have to have. And I have two Hunter fans in my house without a remote that has lasted 12 years. I like them just fine.

I was wrong. The fan IS a Hunter, not a Hampton Bay. I called Home Depot's hotline and talked to a customer service rep. Not much help. Looks like i can get a replacement remote receive, at best.

Right here.
Some of these fans have the receiver permanently built into the canopy of the fan. What a PITA these things are when they go bad. Can't just slap on your regular kit. Have to wait for a new canopy to come UPS.

Yep Marc, it's the PITA type. Plus, I have to completely disassemble the stupid thing just to get to it.

Remote control devices will be installed at your own risk. Remote controlled devices operate on common radio frequencies that may cause interference or may be interfered with by other devices nearby. The use of similar frequencies by air traffic or other remote devices in your neighborhood may disrupt operation of your device. Therefore, we will not be held responsible for intermittent, sporadic, or unacceptable operation of any device that we have installed that utilizes radio frequency remote control.

Thinking about adding this kind of language to our contracts. Ideas?

I have a couple of remote controlled fans in my house, but I have no idea what brand they are. They were there when I bought the house.

Anyway, any time I lose electricity the fans and lights default to ON when the power returns. Could this be your problem? Every time I find one of them on when I know I didn't leave it that way it is because the power went off and came back on again while I was gone.
