I was wondering if others have had trouble with UL listed boxes that are under 100 cu. in., and not a standard size in the NEC table, not having a volume marked on them. I do not have the UL standard for metal boxes, but I would think this would be included . I have a Carlon pancake fan box that has no volume marked, but the box it came in says 8 cu. in. Don't know if it is OK to use or not.

Thanks,

Mark

Is the fan box wired with 12 or 14,2 or 3 wire ?
Besides there is always a canopy. We have never been taqgged for fan boxes but have been tagged for coach lights and 2 cable assys in it.installed a j box in garage ceiling and 1 cable to each solved the problem ;)

314.16 (A)(2) Other Boxes. Boxes 1650 cm3 (100 in.3) or less, other than those described in Table 314.16(A), and nonmetallic boxes shall be durably and legibly marked by the manufacturer with their volume.

If it is not listed in the table then it is required to be marked with it's cu. In.

JW - I was wondering how a box gets a UL listing when it does not meet the code requirement?
