Have You Installed 277 Volt Receptacles?

I remember seeing 277 volt cord connected air conditioners many years ago when I was a kid on jobs with my dad. And I've installed twist lock 277 volt receptacles for lighting. But I have never installed a straight blade 277 volt receptacle and have only ever seen them in catalogs or NEMA charts, until today. I came across one in an office building and had to do a double take. I thought at first it was a 10-20R "crow's foot", but it was in fact a 7-15R. It was about 5 feet of the floor and I believe it probably served a PTAC type A/C, long since scrapped.

It got me thinking that such animals may never have really been popular but possibly more common in the past. Has anyone here ever installed a NEMA 7 device and for what?

I recall inspecting a hotel with the receptacles you are referring to on ptacs. Also had to take a double take.
