In a Class I, Div 2 environment, we are using a Hawke 753 Cable Gland to enter an enclosure which is rated for Class I, Div 1 or 2 locations. Considering that the 753 gland already uses potting around individual conductor, doesn't it already serve the requirement for sealing within 18 inches of the device?

I'm assuming you are terminating cables.

The basic answer is yes, it serves as a seal within 18”. However, depending on what is in the enclosure, you may not need a seal at all. See Section 501.15(E).
