An inspector at Camp Lejeune is asking if the electrical conduits (pvc per nec514) can be run next to and crossing the flexible product lines for E-85 fuel ? The piping mfg. only wants 2" of seperation . Can anyone help me give him a code allowing this ?

Actually, you would be better served if you found specific code that prohibited it.

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with E-85 fuel. Has an electrical area classification document been prepared for the area? What does the E-85 MSDS indicate about its flashpoint and autoignition temperature?

Well, I just pulled up some random MSDS and it is definitely is a Class I, flammable liquid. (Ethanol/gasoline blend - I can't believe I was unfamiliar with the term<place "Embarrassed smiley face" here>)The first question is still valid though – has the electrical area classification been properly documented?

Yes the area has been classified properly . My point was ,show me where this is prohibited , but he wants it documented that it can be there . ( Govt red tape )

My question wasn't whether the classification was proper, rather was it documented properly. See 500.4(A). In any case, there are two considerations:
  1. If the PVC raceway is in the classified location it is a violation of Section 501.10 (A) or (B) depending on the actual Division involved. PVC is only permitted underground. See 501.10 (A)(1) Exception.
  2. If the PVC raceway is above the classified location, it may be permitted by Section 511.7(A)(1) as referenced by 514.7.
