I have #8 HCF cable on plans for patient care areas fed from 40A branch circuit breaker. I have been told HCF cable comes with insulated EGC by manufacturer. What would be the min size equipment grounding conductor for HCF cable provided by the manufacturer?

?? Research what the manufacturer is using and if they have UL listing for the their cable. Or... if you just want to know what size EGC goes with a 40A branch circuit, look it up in the NEC.

I know what size 40A breaker EGC would be. I am wondering with HCF cable size of #8 awg what would be the minimum ECG that comes with it typically?

Well if you already talked to the manufacturer why didn't you ask them?

I didn’t speak with manufacturer. I don’t have cutsheet its on plans stating hcf but EGC is not shown.

HCF comes from manufacturer with insulated equipment ground. Was wondering what EGC size does it come with when phase are sized #8 awg?

You said this in your first post " I have been told HCF cable comes with insulated EGC by manufacturer." so what did that mean if you had not talked to the manufacturer?

It means HCF cable comes with insulated grounding conductor by manufacturer. However the above information was not provided by the manufacturer I heard it does but not sure.

All HCFC comes with an insulated EGC.

Contact whoever submitted the plans to you and tell them you need all the specs and submittals if that is what it will take.

I would rather expect 8-x HFC cable to have a ground sized like 8-x MC cable...which generally means a #10. But I agree with Roger: ask whomever submitted the plans.

If they submitted plans using 8-X HFC cable because of voltage drop on a 20 or 30A circuit, then the question might be enough to get them to recognize their error....

There is this amazing tool called the Internet and if you use that and go to a cable manufacturer's web site you can view the specs on their cables OR you can come here and suffer :)

Southwire has a #8 HCF with a #8 EGC
