my question if we have a gym, and we have a portable ultrasound
sized 6x12x11 does the gym now become a treatment room and we need to follow this section
this piece also sayes it can be battery-powered
any help out there
thanks

Technically an ultrasound machine can't treat anything! It can only diagnose!:grin:

Seriously though, does the reviewer even need to know that this piece of equipment exists in that space (since it is portable and may not even be there all of the time...)?

patient care area

patient care area

Is the ultrasound machine used in the gym? Is there PT or Cardiac rehab going on in the gym? Does the governing body of the health care facility consider the gym a patient care area? If so I would have to disagree and say the requirements of 517 must be followed.

What "health care facility" are you talking about? All I read about is a gym. For all I know, this is a high school gym, or a private "health club," in which case there is no need to even open the book to chapter 517.

The title of the post is "health care facilities art 517".

I took that to mean that this thread is an enquiry as to whether the presence of a medical-related machine turns the facility into a health care facility, and the room into a patient care area.

So tell us, sleepy, what type of facility is this? Where is the gym?

Well I just can't help myself. Which part of the following specifically omits the OP's situation?

517.1 Scope.

The provisions of this article shall apply to electrical construction and installation criteria in health care facilities that provide services to human beings.
Health Care Facilities.

Buildings or portions of buildings in which medical, dental, psychiatric, nursing, obstetrical, or surgical care are provided. Health care facilities include, but are not limited to, hospitals, nursing homes, limited care facilities, clinics, medical and dental offices, and ambulatory care centers, whether permanent or movable.

Try harder. ;)

Wrong question. The correct question is which part includes it? The OP has not yet clarified the situation. If this is a high school, by chance, and if (as of yesterday) they did not have so much as a school nurse or even a single bandaid on site, and if (just this morning) someone brought this battery powered ultrasound device (for reasons yet to be discovered) to the gym, then that fact does not turn the gym into a patient care area, and it does not turn the school into a health care facility. You don't get into the body of 517 without first there being a health care facility.

If that "gym area" is open to the patients I would consider that area as needing HCF cable. I had a similar situation that was required to be considered a patient care area.

I'm wondering if the gym is for physical therapy, sports medicine, occupational therapy, or something similar.
