I have a small service job in a health care facilty. I understand 517.13 (A), about using the MC with the armor that qualifies as an equipment grounding return path. I'm confused with 250.118 (c). If I'm using medical grade MC can I not exceed 6' lengths?

I think you are mis-reading section 250.118. I think you are reading 250.118(5)(c) which limits the length of flexible metal conduit to lengths of not more than 6 feet when used as the EGC.

For HCF-AC cable take a look at 250.118(8) or if you are using the new MC cable that is now listed for grounding look at 250.118(10).

Neither the AC or the MC sections of 250 have a length restriction.

I agree with Chris. The real issue may be the term "medical grade MC", if you are actually using the new MC with a bare aluminum runner, then you can use it in unlimited lengths in patient care areas just the same as you could HFC.

However, you can not use it for Emergency circuits in most situations, see 517.30(C)(3).

Yes, I meant 250.118 (5)(c), but I got it now. Thanks for the help.
