We Have A Hospital That We Are Working On And The Inspector Red Tagged Us For Not Having Healthcare rated AC Cable Connectors. First I Was Not Aware Of Such An Animal And Second Does Anyone Know Where This Would Be In The Code?
Thanks,
Ed

Bryan,

I Found Those Connectors In My Search After I Posted. But These Are Not Required By Any Code Section As Far As I Have Read. The Regal #6620 Is Being Used At It Is Rated For AC Cable.

Re: Healthcare Rated Connector For AC

Any listed AC connector is fine. When we use the term "Healthcare Grade" cable, (HCFC) we are only refering to AC with an insulated EGC not to be confused with standard MC which does not have a "runner" (my term) along it's sheath.

The listing for AC connectors in it's very nature assures the grounding capabilities.

I may be wrong but I believe AC cable manufacturer require connectors of the non set-screw type.
Perhaps this is what the inspector is alluding to.

i went through the same senario. In a health care remodel. It was the UL listing on the m/c cable has to be rated. In that case.

Re: Healthcare Rated Connector For AC

Setscrews are usually fine for steel armor AC, the alum stuff usually has a little plastic warning tape wrapped around the wire warning against using setscrews on the alum armor though.

I like the Arlington L15A and the ECG AMC-50's for this kind of stuff...
