Heat Detector on Open Parking Garage

There isn't a requirement to have smokes or heats in an open garage. If I were to put coverage as an optional item, I would choose heats, because the exhaust from the vehicles will false alarm a smoke detector.

NFPA 72 requirement for smoke detectors are listed below unless detector is specifically designed and listed for expected conditions.

1) Not below 32 degrees farenheit
2) Not above 100 degrees farenheit
3) Relative humidity not above 93%
4) Air velocity not greater than 300 ft/min
