I was wondering can anyone help me find what article states that heat tape,or heat cable has to be gfci protected. I told someone this and now im just checking up on myself. I guess i had another brain spasm. Ive been looking in articla 424, and article 500.13(E) but thats for mobile homes. this house is not mobile homes. Thanks in advance

Re: heat tape gfci

Read the FPN under "Resistance Heating Element", it includes heat tape.

Generally, heat tape is cord-and-plug connected and will require GFCI (5ma) protection by the manufacturers specifications. Heat tracing is a little different and requires GFPE (30ma).

Re: heat tape gfci

so basically its a MANUFACTURERS specification that requires the gfci protection, NOT the NEC. At least that is what im interperting here Please correct me if im wrong. I know ive always installed them with GFCI protection, and i know even if it werent required i would still do it.
