What code section covers heat trace cables installed on water lines? It appears to be 424.1 My question is should heat trace be installed with gfci or gfpe?

Are you talking about the plug in heat trace cables? Nevermind I don't think Section V pertains to this.

Smart are you saying heat trace is 427?
I am... but open to correction as, even though I've installed plenty, this is the first time I've ever looked it up in the Code :roll::roll::roll:

I don't see how heat tape fits into the scope of Article 424 as shown in 424.1. Take a look at 427.1. The scope of that article covers heat tape.
