height of subpanel ?

Is there a specified height for a sub panel in a home? When we add a sub panel close to a house panel, sometimes the easiest place is right below the main panel. But is that too low? I always put it beside the panel, but that is more work to do. Thank you.

I don't like them low but there is no minimum distance except for a mobile home (2')

NEC wise no because nobody considers a panel in a garage in the vicinity of easily ignitable material like a clothes closet. Building code wise, is the panel an ignition source?

No. The rules for this don't matter if it is dwelling or not either. I have installed panels that go in ~7 foot tall cabinet. I believe it was 54 space NF panel with 400 amp main breaker, as well as some I-Line panels. In order to keep the highest handle below the maximum allowed height the bottom of the cabinet has to be pretty low.
