Hi Group,
I've been lurking here for the last year and a half as I prepared to, and then started my own electrical contracting company. While lurking here, I have read many threads that were truly enlightening and helped me in both my understanding of electrical work and the business side of electrical contracting. I have also read many posts that left me wondering about the state of our trade. Regardless, all of the threads have given me the feel that I am not alone. And for that, I thank all of you.
So I apologize for not chiming in sooner and I thank all of you for your insights into the fascinating world of electrical work and the business of electrical contracting.
A little background so you know where I am coming from;
I have:
-Been a licensed journeyman in Oklahoma since 1998
-profitably completed several explosion-proof / hazardous location jobs
(by "profitably completed" I mean that my former bosses made money)
-Passed the Texas and Maryland Master Electrician tests (and have every expectation of passing several more)
- Done municipal and federal government jobs including life safety work for the army corps of engineers
-Successfully completed commercial projects including manufacturing facilities, health care, retail, churches, movie theaters, banks and more.
- Slowly but surely built a business fairly evenly divided between new commercial construction and residential service work.

And most of all I have enjoyed all of my experiences in the world of electrical contracting, even the ones that weren't so much fun when they happened. With the benefit of hindsight I look back upon them now and they are priceless.

The Mike Holt Code Forum was an integral part of my personal learning curve and overall I am happy to say that I feel I am in good company.

None of this has been easy, most of it was fun (at least in retrospect) and ALL of it has been awesome.

Thanks to Mike Holt (and company) for this forum and thanks to all of the members here for making it real.

Welcome!

Anybody care to make a guess as to how many years of combined knowledge is contained in this forum?

Hmm...

So, taking the 1,730 members currently listed as "active" (what that means, I have no idea) and figuring an average of 8 years in the trade (my own WAG), that comes to around 13,000 years of experience.

How's that for an uneducated guess? :D
