Help finding device info

While visiting out of state, I came across a receptacle I had not seen before. It was in a manufactured home, and was a recep designed to be cut in with no box. Sort of a one piece deal with the "wings" you'd find on a cut-in box and a body that covered the NM connections.

Anyone familiar with these devices and who makes them? This was in Arkansas, and here in CA I've never seen anything like it (nor do I really care to, frankly).

Noxx, I'm only familiar with these devices the same as you.

I went thru a manufactured home plant a few years back and saw these then, I remember questioning who made these but for the life of me I don't remember now.

The connections were made with pins penetrating the conductor insulation I think.

T&B made them, or still make them.

I used them 25 years ago in a mobile home plant.
They're a recept, plate and box all wrapped up into one. You folded the wiring into the back and used a special tool to compress the device, thus terminating the wiring as well as covering the box. You then placed them into an opening in the wall (routed in the wall department) and used a "yankee" screwdriver to fasten the toggles to the back side of the wall covering (paneling)

A fast worker could set the devices in a 14 x 70 3BR 2Bath home in less than ten minutes

Thanks for the feedback. I'm unable to find anything on the T&B website about them, and I believe the type I saw may be slightly different than the older ones described. At least, the cover plate was not inclusive, but the rest of the device was. Would like to get my hands on a couple for demonstration purposes but can't seem to locate a current retailer.

Leave a note with the local fire marshall to contact you whenever one of these homes go up in smoke (or, in a tornado, just goes up!!!) You can bet it will shortly.

Re: Help finding device info

For the record this hom was less than two years old, so someone's still making them somewhere.

Funny thing is, although I naturally cringe at something that's so obviously a cheap-out, I don't see an inherent hazard here. The NM cable is securely terminated and the connections are enclosed in the same grade of plastic that NM device boxes are made out of.

noxx-

They are in alot of trailers here in NY state. Even newer ones. I have seen the one piece, with the plate and two piece, separate cover plate.
They are alot loke the quick connects you encounter in modular homes. In attics and basements they put these ends on the wires that have to connect between the halves of the house. The connectors are like male and female flat plugs. Supposedly the connectors are approved to be concealed.

As for the devices, usually I just rip them out and cut in a shallow box with a "real" device.
