It's been said the housing bubble created the crisis. We now have a glut of new & existing homes. With the nationwide membership this Forum has could we put party affiliation aside and come up with a plan which could be presented to our elected officials as a solution.
I would like us to enter a brief phase of "brain storming" where ideas are submitted and no criticsm offered. We could then pick from the best ideas and maybe come up with a plan.
Some ideas might be;
1) Empower local inspection services to select buildings that are dragging down a neighborhood and are vacant. Money would be provided to make them safe by hiring construction electricians, plumbers etc. and tear them down.
2) The owner would now have a flat level lot which could be built on with no permit fees, if action is taken in say, two months.
3) This would put people to work, rid neighborhoods of slums, be the stimulus to build, provide copper, aluminum, steel etc. recycle material (which would lower the price of that material).
4) By taking a small portion of the $700 B allocated people would come off the unemployment roles, neighborhoods would be safer & inspectors would have plenty to do. This new money into a local economy alone would generate ten times the wealth, if my economics 101 is correct.
