HELP!!!! I'm up a crick without a paddle...........I have no radio signal either!!!!!

Hi All,
Although I don't post much on here, I enjoy reading topics in the Business Management/Estimating section of this forum. I have learned quite a bit and it has also re-enforced some of the business practices that I have already have in place.
Ok, down to business. I have a customer, a small oil producer, that has a pump jack and tanks that are remote from each other by about 1,150'. There is power at the pump jack end, but not at the tank battery end. There are float switches in the tanks to prevent the tanks from overflowing (the float switches are used to trigger the radio transmitter). There is a radio transmitter at the tanks and a receiver at the pump jack. I was called out to do some other work, they wanted to re-wire the controls so that the radio would transmit more than one signal when the tanks were full (they had an issue in the past with the tanks overflowing). After I re-wired the controls, added a timing relay, etc., I discovered that the transmitter and receiver radios weren't working. (They had this same radio system at two other locations. So I took one of those systems and swapped it with the one I was working on. The system then worked.) I called the company, Linear Process (they've been bought out by another company, figures don't it), and was told that this unit is no longer available, more than one company rep told me that "China quit making some of the parts for those units, so we can't even repair them", that is nearly a direct quote. :thumbsdown: One of the techs that I talked to even tried to find some NOS on the internet, he found some on eBay and Amazon, I think. I asked if they offered a replacement or updated version of this unit, but was told they didn't for the distance that we are trying to transmit. I really don't want to install something that is obsolete, so I have tried a Google search for another brand or type of this radio transmitter/receiver and this is the only one I have been able to find. One of the issues is the distance that the signal is being transmitted is 1,150 on is location. At another location, the distance is 2,200'. I believe that these radio units are probably at the end of their normal life expectancy, as they've been in service since about 2005 - 2006. I'm sure that this isn't the only application that this has been used for, and I'm sure that there is a company out there somewhere that makes a product that does the same thing. I just can't find it.

We would have already trenched between the pump jack and the tanks but the ground has big boulders, old pump jack foundations that were mixed and poured by hand back in the 1930's and 1940's that can't be pushed out with a dozer, :jawdrop: and the landowners are very reluctant (read, it will be nearly impossible) to give permission for excavating on their property.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

The nodes can even come battery powered and depending on how often you set the update rate the sales rep claims you can get years out of the battery. He says oil and gas customers use them for distributing sensors along pipelines.
 
I'm willing to bet there is something out there that can tie into cellular phone networks, and is also capable of giving interactivity and monitoring by owner/operator from remote location on a phone or other internet connected device.

Such things are common around here with center pivot irrigation anymore.
