does anyone know of a good inwall timer that can be used for both a appliances (bath fan) and light ?? I bought 2 that just werent compatible for whatever reason. They were electronic but after i installed and 'read the instructions' i found out they are not compatible with the 'motor' of the fan. I do NOT want to spend big money for those heavy duty timers just a inexpensive one i can use for the bath fan. thanks.

by the way HAPPY EASTER.

Fan tech makes a timer for their fan. I suppose you can use them on any fan

Wow.... I know if I go to my supply house and ask for a device mounted timer, that's the one they'll want to grab first. Intermatic seems to be the main brand in those. I'm sure you can get one overnighted from Grainger or Amazon or someplace like that. I don't really ever count on the big-box stores for anything in particular. I mostly use them as a quick pit-stop if I'm working near there and need something I know for sure they have.

Thanks for the link, Maybe i didnt clarify enuff of what im looking for. Im not looking for the 'spring wound type timers that would go on for about 30 min. Im looking for the type that i can 'program' to periodically come on all thru the day like they have programmable light switches that you set to come on on their own. I thought i could use one of those for a bath fan but it doesnt seem to be compatible with it. the motor just humms.

This works great!

I have this in my bathroom for over ten years on the fan, the time is 15, 10, 5, 2 minute(s), and counts right down.

The Lutron one is nice, but wont work in many high wattage bath designs, or those requiring energy code compliance - i.e. fluoro loads.

And if looking for periodic though out the day - Intermatic seven day sounds more like the ticket - most have just contacts from a battery operated relay.

Are you looking for certain times? Or just here and there for any purpose?

I have also used motion sensors to control them..... (Watt-stopper power packs) Go into the shower - ON, Step over to the throne - ON - goes off after a set time. I would suggest testing during rough to get the sensor placement down early.... And if creative you can make a Manual ON over-ride, and Auto ON by use of a 3-way switch. Or an OFF switch. Or all 3 options with a stacked 3-way/single pole. And creative use of a good label maker....

So some timers can handle a tungsten, but not inductive, load. Seems like a bad design.
