Im studying for my Oregon state test and i often have trouble finding some answers. Most i can find fairly quickly but usually some of them i can't find until ive spent 20 minutes searching for it. So here are some that i can't find, or couldn't find quickly. Basically i want to know how you found it, as in, what you looked up. i really could care less what the answers are, i just want to work on speed

dwelling units shall contain at least ______ communication outlets
a. 1
b. 2
c. 3
d. 4

Buildings or structures supplied by multiple services or feeder must use the same
a. service
b. disconnect
c. electrode system
d. any of these
im guessing its electrode system, but i couldn't find it in the code.

each strap less than 2 in. wide containing one or more device shall count as a _____ volume allowance in accordance with table 314.16(b) based on the largest conductor connected to a device(s) or equipment supported by the strap.
a. single
b. double
c. triple
d. none of these

for ungrounded systems, non-current-carrying conductive materials enclosing electrical conductors or equipment, or forming part of such equipment, shall be connected together and to the supply system equipment in a manner that creates a low-impedance path for ground fault current that is capable of carrying_______.
a. the maximum branch circuit current
b at least twice the maximum ground fault current
c. the maximum fault current likely to be imposed on it.
d. the equivalent to the main service rating

a switch constructed so that it can be installed in device boxes or on box covers, or otherwise used in conjunction with wiring systems recongnized by the nec is called a ______switch
a. transfer
b. motor circuit
c. general use snap
d. bypass isolation

the material located in the nec annexes are part of the code and shall be complied with
a. true
a. false im assuming this is true, but is it in the code book?

where no statutory requirement exists, the authority having jurisdiction could be ta property owner or his /her agent, such as an architect or engineer
true
false

again, i don't care what the answer is, or even what the article is. I want to know how you found that article. What you looked up to find the article

dwelling units shall contain at least ______ communication outlets

I looked under outlets in the index, then under dwellings, and finally under communications, and found nothing. I believe the answer is 1.

Buildings or structures supplied by multiple services or feeder must use the same

That's a good guess because it's correct. Like you, I am also study for an upcoming licensing exam. The electrode is common sense if you ask me so I started thumbing through section III of Article 250 because it deals with grounding electrodes and grounding electrode conductors. I found the answer section 250.58 Common Grounding Electrode.

each strap less than 2 in. wide containing one or more device shall count as a _____ volume allowance in accordance with table 314.16(b) based on the largest conductor connected to a device(s) or equipment supported by the strap.

This question is new from new wording in the 2008 NEC. This can be found by looking in the index under conductor fill, boxes.

for ungrounded systems, non-current-carrying conductive materials enclosing electrical conductors or equipment, or forming part of such equipment, shall be connected together and to the supply system equipment in a manner that creates a low-impedance path for ground fault current that is capable of carrying_______.

the question mentions "NON-CURRENT-CARRYING" and "GROUND FAULT CURRENT" so I knew instinctively they wanted to know something about grounding. Article 250, definitions.

a switch constructed so that it can be installed in device boxes or on box covers, or otherwise used in conjunction with wiring systems recongnized by the nec is called a ______switch

Transfer switch? Maybe, but I doubt it.
Motor circuit switch? Doubtful, unless the question asks about HP rating which it doesn't.
General use snap? Very likely.
Bypass isolation? Huh?

What is the definition of general snap switch? Article 100, definitions.

Like I said, I am also studying for an upcoming exam. Some of these questions seemed rather simple to me because I've been preparing for the exam for more than a few years. But just like you I am having a difficult time finding answers by using the index and table of contents. I have less than 3 weeks until the exam so I am looking forward to the replies in this thread myself. I didn't want to give all the answers out of respect to the rules of the forum.

For the first one you need to look to Chapter 8 of the 2008 code. For the last one look to Article 100.

Ok, I found the answer in 800.156 but it was a matter of luck. I just thumbed through the pages of Article 800. In the index, I looked under Dwelling Unit, Communications, and Outlets for anything that would lead me to a section in Chapter 8. I could not find anything for communication outlets in the index.

i don't have a code book in front of me right now but.........

i ended up finding the chapter 8 one, just by thumbing through the 800's, wasn't sure if somebody could find it anyway else. For the general snap switch, i looked in definitions and didn't see it, maybe i overlooked it, i'll check it out again.

i have some other comments, but i need my code book in front of me. I'll take another test tomorrow and have more. i'll probably have more easy ones, but like i said im not concerned with the answers, i just want to know how your found it
