Help needed with ITE breakers....

I ran into a problem today with an ancient ITE breaker. It is a EQ-T model. It is a QT1-2020, class CTL installed in an unidentfiable 3-phase ITE panel. Someone had double tapped it, and when I introduced a short when installing a bathroom timer (I did not see the damaged insulation on the wire in the conduit box, special thanks to the guy who put the original switch in) It fried one half of the breaker in the "on" position. The end of the wire just melted out of the breaker. This of course does not instill a great deal of faith in the breakers ability to "Trip". My local Siemens distributor only had a non CTL double, and it will not fit. I searched online and found some, but they are reconditioned and pricey.

1. Does anyone know of an alternative breaker that would fit?

2. Does anyone know of a supplier they would deem "reputable" on the used/refurbished market.

Thanks,

Siemens is the successor to I-T-E, replace it w/ a Siemens Q2020 quad breaker.

I know that about Siemens. The one the supply house gave me was the non-ctl version of the breaker. It would not fit. Which then leads me to ask, would the ctl version fit ( if anyone knows) Of course the SH did not have the ctl version. I normally dont use Siemens, so I am not up on what works where.

You didn't hear this from me, but the thin sheet metal piece that makes it non-ctl can be carefully removed from the clips on the breaker.. :D

Won't do me any good:smile: It will not engage the mounting point in the panel. The housing is to large. I could modify the breakers's hook, but would prefer not too. The old breaker has a "horseshoe" clip.

Well I ended up using a single pole Siemens which fit fine. The load was just some lighting, so it should be ok. I did discover a BR breaker would fit, but I don't know if they make a non-ctl version. Anyway, at least I stayed legal listing wise.
