Several posters have left messages asking are there any changes in this or that, they need to be aware of as they have not purchased the 2008 NEC. Now I am a nut I bought my copies as soon as I could. But now we are well past the release date and everyone, including those in areas where the 2008 won't be accepted till 2020 should own at least one. I WOULD SURELY THINK.

Yes they have gotten expensive compared to when I started in the trade but so has steak, beer and cigarettes. It is one of the normal expenses of working in the trade.

For me, I used to be an inspector, and thought I used to be pretty profiecent with the code. But being out of it for so long, its been some what easy to survive on past experience for the most part. But, I realize that I am behind in some area's, and I must catch up....I puchased my 08' code book earlier this year, and just purchased the handbook last week, and thanks to folks on this forum for being so helpfull with their knowledge and willing to share, because sometimes after reading its still not clear to us Old farts !!

Why is that Va is so slow when a new code comes out va just got 05 but most jobs around here are still under 02 code.I was told its when the drawings are stamped with a date

For anyone following the NEC they should purchase a book containing all of the code changes. There are many out there including an excellent one from Mike Holt. This summarizes what you'll need to know once the "new" code is adopted.

While I carry a copy of 05 and 08, If I am on a job far from my truck and I ask for an NEC it is amazing how many jobs have no NEC or an old book. Their excuse there really weren't that many changes??????????????????????????????? REALLY

Show them a paper copy of the ROP.

I cant' tell you how many jobs that I go on that a code is not on site. If I find violations the first thing I ask is get your code book and I'll show the section in question and discuss it. The answer I get is the code book is in the office. Then I bring mine out. Many jobs it's difficult to be code complient with a code book but without almost impossible. Try a swimming pool among many others.

It is. Jobs are inspected according to the codee cycle in use when the permit is approved.

Don't complain; few code changes result in easier work or less expense. Oh, and welcome.
