Hi-pot test failure?

Hello all. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this. We're installing a 3 conductor, 500 kcmil, copper tape shielded 15kva cable. We stripped off the rubber and aluminum sheathing. We noticed a small pinhole in the copper tape. Not sure if manufacturer or us. Wondering if anyone has had this problem before. It does not look like it penetrated the semi-conductor. Any info would be appreciated.

A slight manufacturing imperfection of the copper tape should not be a problem and it would have shown up at the manufacturers test. Do you have the manufacturer's HiPot test report on the reel? I always ask the manufacturer of their recommendations what test should be performed at what stages of the installation. Mfr. Rep witnessed field tests often help with any subsequent warranty claims.

Good advice, CYA. Just be sure they do an AC test, VLF, Tan Delta or PD. A DC hipot will likely not find an issue like that and it could fail when energized. Not to mention a DC test could make a small defect worse.
