I have a 3 phase 480V feed in to a over head crane. I'm trying to install a 400W Hi-presure sodium fixture but there is no neutral. The feed consist of four wires (3 hot and 1 ground) a maintenance personal installed a previous fixture by wiring the ballast from phase A to phase C (since there's no neutral) but the light only worked for a day. This is a Delta with a grounded B phase connection.
Does the ballast have to be specified to be wired phase to phase? Can I use the B phase as my common? Or is it safe to go from A or C phase and use the ground as me common?
