high amps

I megged a 230 v single phase sump pump motor today @250v i got 275m, no shorts to ground, I got continuity between both legs . the motor is suppose to draw 15 amps , today it was pulling 56amps . does anyone think the high amps are due to inpeller getting jammed? that happens alot. thanks

I'd make sure that the impeller turned free first.

If the impeller was jammed, the motor would draw pretty much dataplate LRA... then it would die.

Maybe a case of "sanded" suction bell? Is there a way you can jog the pump in reverse? When you're done, clean the screens and check for gaps/ holes.
