I am installing Flourescent high bay fixtures within a multipurpose room. Each fixture has a total of (4) ballasts, (3) regular and (1) dimming. Each ballast controls 2 lamps. Is it required to have a plug at each fixture location for disconnecting means to be able to service the fixture? And if so what sort of options do you have that will allow you to have a quick disconnecting means for 4 switch legs, 2 neutrals and a ground at each location?

They come installed with (4) seperate ballasts and each ballast powers 2 lamps. There are a total of 8 lamps within the fixture.

Is a disconnecting means required by code at each fixture?

Couldn't you just hardwire the fixture into a junction box. There is two many switch legs to provide one general switch.

Depends what code cycle you are under and no one knows where you are.
(btw fix that in your user CP)

One of the code wonks (iwire?) will swoop in shortly with the exact cite but under 05 I don't think you are required to do an individual disconnecting means but under 08 there is a change that those quick connects (at the ballasts) come into play and new fixtures may already have that.

In either case, for servicing purposes how the room/area is switched can (in most instances) accomplish making it safe to service and meet that requirement.

No, they are not. What section of the code book gave you that idea?
Cord and plug would be a bad, if not impossible choice.

First saw some of these fixtures at a school in DeSoto, KS last weekend. Wondered about the disconnecting means at the time. These looked like they had a remote ballast. Addressable, I am guessing.

I couldn't study the layout as long as I wanted because the spouse usally gives me a poke in the ribs if I stare at the ceiling to long.

Impressive fixture.
