Putting a price together for a customer who needs some high bay lights. They are wanting 400 watt, and needing 10-15 of them. And of course the customer is not wanting to spending $200 per fixture. Anyone have any suggestions as to where I can find economical high bay fixtures? Any help would be appreciated!

I jumped on Ebay last week and bought a few. Just did a search that said "high bay lights"...I bought the ones right on the top of the page. $86 each and that was with freight included and a light bulb. About half the cost of where I could find them anywhere else. Hope this helps you out.

I have a good relationship with one of my suppliers so I call my sales rep and I can purshase a 400w metal halide high bay with hardware for around $125.00 brand name will avry but are high Quality lights complete with bulbs

your best bet is to call your local supply house and talk with the rep in the lighting quotes and have hime quote the whole job for the 10-15 high bays. you can get a better price when buying several lights and having the suppliers quote you a lot price. dont be afraid to call several suppliers to have them all quote you a price. you will find that maybe one of the suppliers is really hungry and gives you a great price.

i have bought direct from ruud lighting in the past --requires payment in advance and then they correct any problems but you have to wait on everything. after two jobs that way i switched back to my local supply house. but don't let your customer select the fixture without knowing the beam spred and required fixture hieghth..... they might be unhappy with the fixture's performance otherwise. we have converted alot of parking garages in the past --- and the right fixture makes a great difference. we had one customer ask us for pricing a particular fixture that they had a price from another contractor. we were lower and they gave us the job --- turned out the fixture they asked for was designed for a ten foot ceiling heigth and their garage was 7'-6". it makes a difference!!! also consider the most efficient fixture available --- like the half wave pulse.............

Thanks GWB! Searched Ebay under "High Bay Lights"...bought 15 of them from user called "electricpartsforsale". Received them in 2 days and will start installing them tomorrow. Price was $86.90 each and that included shipping and lamps...couldn't find that price anywhere for that cheap! Check it out if you need any. Thanks everyone for the info, but couldn't dig into my wallet as deep as some contracts allow for!

Just bought some lights from him myself again. There are down to 84.90 each now. I saw some low bay 400 watt metal halide for 97.90 each. Called them up and bought them for $3 cheaper per light. They said I can get them at www.highbaylowbay.com

i can get new lithonia 400w high bays complete w/ bulb for $95. call your supply house. there's no reason for you to be paying $200 new or even $85 used.

Right on the money!!!

I would add:

Ebay lights at your own risk. If you furnish, and install, these lights what happens if a lamp or ballast goes bad in the first 30-days?
Who do you call?
Why would you expose yourself like that so your customer can save a buck?

I am with Ito. There is no real guarantee of quality on this stuff, let alone half of the stuff we buy today that comes with a weird brand name and a Made in China sticker.

Not that China is incapable of making great stuff, but their quality incentive is reasonably questionable when they are making low-end stuff for a profit hungry import company.

And your reputation comes into play when this stuff has ballast issues in short time.

Customers are idiots lots of times, but letting them tell you what they will spend on 400 watt high bay lighting is not something I would let them get away with, of course I lose jobs by telling them that they are wrong.
