Hi All,
really hope someone can help with referenced/documented safety distance specifications.
The local utility company has (3) 72,000 kvw overhead lines on metal poles. They feed a subdivision and a baseball stadium.
The Neutral / static line is 6' directly above a proposed new metal traffic signal support with a 50' mast arm that runs away from the metal pole & high power lines.
This metal traffic signal support base is 8' 4" away from the metal power pole base. All traffic signal furniture (structures) (8 total) are connected by underground neutrals and Earth grounds.
There are (1) each ground rods in the traffic signal cabinet and the power meter pedestal on the opposite side of the street ( 120'.)
The utility company will sleeve the Neutral while the traffic signal support and mast arm are installed. They then plan to release the neutral line to it's original position (6' clearance.)
OSHA states 10' clearence to a "potential" conductor. NEC states 4' is OK.
There is static and mobile applications and requirements used during this installation process. My concern is for my crew that will have to repair this intersection long after the utility company and contractor leave. I have a bad feeling about this one and would never put anyone in harms way.
Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. If we allow this application and we are wrong it could be a disaster.
Thanks,
Dave
